Daily scenes from the streets of Alexandria

By 2:02 p.m.

Long car drives can be exhausting, but not if you wish to perceive scenes or moments that otherwise you wouldn't notice while walking around. In my case, my time in Alexandria was limited, so I wished to see as much as I could of this beautiful mediterranean metropolis.

So we started the trip at the Roman ruins of Kom al-Dikka. By midday, we were our way to the Biblitheca Alexandrina, or Library of Alexandria, a major library located on the shore of the Mediterranean sea. Before we got there, my uncle drove around a while so that I could get my eyes used to the new city. If you don't have enough time to discover a city on foot, the best way to get around is by car, always with someone who knows the place and with your eyes wide opened so you don't miss anything from the car window.

These men were hanging out around midday at the corner of a street. They seemed very entertained, soaking up some sun while they cleaned their shoes.

While driving around the city, I saw some streets had barricades. In this picture a man walks past a bunch of clothes (probably a yard sale out on the street), while a taxi drives right next to him.

Traffic on a normal day in Alexandria.

Vendors selling ice cream along Alexandria's Corniche waterfront promenade. It starts by the Citadel of Qaitbay and ends by the Montaza Palace.

Alexandria has an interesting european-style architecture: the weathered painting of the buildings along Corniche show a grandeur that can still be perceived, if you look close and long enough.

Alexandria's Corniche and the city skyline! What an amazing weather! Not in vain, the city's nickname is the Bride of the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean flair of the city makes it a really nice place to unwind; while you listen to the crash of the waves against the shore and breath the salty air, you also enjoy the views of the city skyline.
On my next post I'll feature the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a place whose meaning to humanity couldn't be more important than ever!
Have a great monday,
Astrid
